      there’s one place
      we lived for,
      like, six years.
      That was the
      longest we’d ever
      stayed anywhere.”

 “So at least you can
  say you’re a native
    of somewhere. Hopefully
  there are fewer
    mosquitos there, because
  we’re pretty abundant
    here. What does your dad do,
  anyway?”

      “Dad’s job requires
      a lot of
      moving around, so
      we don’t always
      really seem like
      tourists. Although it’s
      s u p e r awesome here.”

            She almost laughed
            at her own
            stupid pun.

     Nani decides to ignore the
  stifled laughter. Some
    people just like to laugh.

“That’s really cool, actually.
  So d'you, like, have a
    "hometown” or is it kinda a
  wherever’s home sort of
    thing?“

      “I’ve got time.”

            Her family is
            probably by the
            pool somewhere, teaching
            J a c k - J a c k
            how to swim,
            but this is
            decidedly more of
            V i o l e t ’ s
            personal style.

      “Oh — I’m
      V i o l e t .
      Nice to meet
      you, N a n i .
      And yeah, kind
      of. My family…
      well, my dad
      is on a
      business trip for
      a few months
      or so, and
      brought the rest
      of us along.”

            It’s not technically
            u n t r u e …

    “Well, welcome to the island,

  then! To be totally honest,

    we don’t get many tourists around 

  Hooilo, but it’s always nice

    to get some visitors.” Even if Nani

  usually referred to them as

    income more often. The islanders

  are often less than thrilled

    to be overrun by sweaty, greasy

  rubberneckers who know

    no Hawaiian after aloha. But Violet’s

  nice enough, it seems.

    “Alright, so Lilo went that way first.”

      “Oh, come on.
      another pair of
      eyes has never

    “Only if you’re

  her for a

    while- Lilo's pretty

  good at hidin’.

  Kauai’s a tiny island.”

      “Hey, are you
      a l r i g h t ? You
      seem sort of
      d i s t r e s s e d .”

            Even out of
            her s u p e r s u i t ,
            she’s still a
            s u p e r h e r o .

    “Yeah- have you seen a 

  small, deranged child

    anywhere? She went running,

  uh, that way, I think, but

    then she just disappeared.

  She’s annoyi- funny like that.”
